Frequency of Sessions
Sessions take place weekly to ensure a strong therapeutic alliance is established and offers the best opportunity to gain what you need from your therapy process. Once the alliance is established fortnightly sessions are an option.
A minimum therapy process would be 6-12 sessions for short-term therapy. Working with more complex difficulties, such as recovery from trauma requires long-term therapy, which can be agreed and reviewed regularly.
I understand life is busy and professional commitments and personal responsibilities can mean it is not always possible to attend a regular appointment slot. I will always try to accommodate your needs, so please get in touch to discuss your individual requirements.
What can I expect from my first session?
The first session is the initial assessment; together we will explore a brief history, what brings you to therapy and what you hope to achieve from your counselling process. You will have the opportunity to understand more about how I work, we will decide if we can work together and if counselling or psychotherapy is a good fit for you. We will then formulate a plan for your therapy process, which will remain under regular review to ensure we are meeting your specific needs, as part of your ongoing process.
How many sessions will I need?
The therapeutic process is unique to each individual, for some six sessions will be enough, for others with more complex issues long-term psychotherapy may be more appropriate. At your first session we can understand your difficulties more and agree an initial course of therapy, which can be reviewed as part of your ongoing process.
What can I do if I need to cancel an appointment?
Please let me know as soon as possible if you are unable to attend your appointment. Where 48 hours notice is given, I will attempt to reschedule your session to another time slot within the same week. For sessions cancelled within 48 hours of the appointment time, or for missed appointments the full fee will remain liable.
What improvements can I expect following therapy?
Therapy occurs in a co-created, safe and professional working alliance and requires regular attendance and engagement. Each clients difficulties, therapy journey and outcome is unique to them, the process often feels positive and exciting and at times uncomfortable or painful.
Clients frequently report a reduction in symptoms of stress, anxiety and depression and improved coping ability, as well as the emergence of feeling empowered, more resilient and able to manage their own life. A sense of emotional freedom and liberation from the past.
My practice is based within The West Street Counselling and Psychotherapy Centre, Fareham. A 5 minute walk from the bus station, 10-15 minute walk from the train station. The Centre is easily accessible from Portsmouth and Southampton via junction 11 of the M27.
