Frequently Asked Questions
I am happy to answer any questions and talk through how we might work together. Please feel free to contact me at any time on 07783 058343 or click here to send me an email. I will respond to your message promptly.
How do I make an appointment?
I offer sessions between 9 am - 6 pm Monday to Friday, evening and Saturday morning appointments are also available on request. To make an appointment please call, text or email me.
What is the cost?
The session fee is £45 for a 50-minute individual counselling session. Fees can be paid by bank transfer prior to your appointment slot or by cash, credit or debit card at the start of your session. Telephone and online counselling sessions are also available on request.
How frequent are the sessions?
Sessions take place weekly to ensure a strong therapeutic relationship is established and gives the best opportunity to gain what you need from your therapy process. Once established, fortnightly or monthly sessions are an option. I understand life is busy and it is not always possible to attend a regular appointment slot. I aim to be as flexible as I can, so please get in touch to discuss your individual needs.
What can I expect from my first session?
The first session is the initial assessment; a chance for you to try out the process without any obligation to continue. We will explore a brief history, what brings you to therapy and what you hope to achieve from your counselling process. You will have the opportunity to understand more about how I work and together we will formulate a plan for your therapy process, which will remain under regular review to ensure we are meeting your specific needs.
How many sessions will I need?
The therapeutic process is unique to each individual, for some 6-12 sessions will be enough, for others with more complex issues long-term psychotherapy may be more appropriate. At your first session we can understand your difficulties more and agree an initial course of therapy, which will be reviewed as part of your ongoing process.
What can I do if I need to cancel an appointment?
Please let me know as soon as possible if you are unable to attend your appointment. Where 48 hours notice is given, I will attempt to reschedule your session to another time slot within the same week. For sessions cancelled within 48 hours of the appointment time, or for missed appointments the full fee will be charged.
What improvements can I expect following therapy?
Therapy occurs in a co-created, safe and professional working relationship and requires regular attendance and engagement. Each clients difficulties, therapy journey and outcome is unique to them, the process often feels positive and exciting and at times uncomfortable or painful. Clients frequently report a reduction in symptoms of stress, anxiety and depression and improved coping ability, as well as the emergence of feeling empowered, more resilient and able to manage their own life. A sense of emotional freedom and liberation from the past.
Where is the practice?
My practice is based within The West Street Counselling and Psychotherapy Centre, Fareham. A 5 minute walk from the bus station, 10-15 minute walk from the train station. The Centre is easily accessible from Portsmouth and Southampton via junction 11 of the M27.
